Allergies

As a west Sonoma County resident and doctor, Dr. Denise Cooluris, ND is very familiar with the challenges of allergies in our communities, both in diagnosis and effective treatments.

An allergic reaction occurs when our immune system becomes over reactive to a substance that is normally benign. This can occur with pollens, fungi, mold, dust mites, dander, chemicals, and foods (among several others). When our body interacts with an allergen, our immune cells produce antibodies to release a host of chemicals, an action that our body experiences as symptoms. These chemicals are housed in several systems of the body, including our digestive, nervous, hormonal, and immune systems. Therefore, when we suspect an allergy symptom, it’s important to look at the whole person to properly identify and address the concern.

An expert in natural allergy treatment, Dr. Cooluris uses allergy testing (when applicable) and a clinical interview to identify the specific cause of the allergic reaction, the body systems that may be involved and an individualized course of treatment. Her approach involves nutrient therapies, herbal medicines, sublingual immunotherapy desensitization (SLIT, a natural technique that convinces the body to recognize the allergen as a normal interaction), and lifestyle changes as necessary to live a lifestyle free of allergies.
